About Mr. John

John Barnes, now 62, started trapping at age 6 with help from dad. He got his first mink. At age 7 John ran his own trap line here in Barnard, much of which was on snowshoes.

A mason as an adult, trapping filled in perfectly for winter income providing extra cash for Christmas for his wife and four children.

By high school, John trapped around Silver Lake (still his home today) and anywhere within walking distance.

All the years in the wild watching and studying the habits of animals, to become a better trapper, gave him the knowledge and appreciation he has today. "Their intelligence and connection with all of nature gave me great respect. Everything in the wild has a purpose."

Fishing was another way to provide food and recreation for family summers. John started bass fishing competitively in 1989 and made the Vermont State team in 1991 (top 12 in Vermont). John was on the state team 15 times and has been winner of many local bass tournaments.

John Barnes is Registered, Licensed (VT/NH), and Insured.
